The best local summer plans are often the ones that do not require much organizing. A blanket in the car. A quick look at the city calendar. A free evening concert. A Saturday morning market run before the day gets too warm.
Torrance has a few good reasons to keep the calendar handy this month. The city’s Torrance Summer Nights series runs through September 12, 2026, with free music and outdoor entertainment at Wilson Park Amphitheatre and other local venues. It is the kind of programming that works for families, older adults, and anyone who wants an easy night out without buying a ticket.
Torrance also brings residents together through its Movies in the Park program, offering free outdoor movie nights at local parks during the summer. Families are encouraged to bring blankets or low-back chairs, snacks, warm layers, and enough time to settle in before the movie begins.
The Torrance Certified Farmers’ Market is another reliable local stop, open Tuesdays and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Wilson Park. The market features California-grown produce, eggs, honey, baked goods, fish, flowers, and nursery stock.
The Torrance Public Library also has a busy July calendar, including babytime, toddlertime, family storytime, crafts, teen programs, puzzles, and movie-related activities across its branches.
For a short drive, Redondo Beach Pier’s Summer of Music runs Thursdays and Saturdays from July 2 through August 29 at Fisherman’s Wharf, and Manhattan Beach Concerts in the Park continues Sundays from 5 to 7 p.m. at Polliwog Park through September 6.
As July moves along, it may be worth checking the calendars people often forget: the library, the parks department, the farmers’ market, and the beach cities. A good summer plan does not always need weeks of notice. Sometimes it just needs one open evening and a reason to leave the house.
