How did you first learn about the Credit Union?

On a recent visit to PFCU, the teller that I dealt with told me that there aren’t many members who have four-digit account numbers. She asked me to provide a little history of our time with the credit union. In the late 1970’s, my wife and I opened a savings account with Parishioners FCU. At the time, the office was located in a small room in the St. James Parish Hall in Redondo Beach. The pastor, Father Augustus O’Gorman, had lobbied for this credit union to assist families in the parish.

Describe your experience and what is it about the Credit Union that keeps you coming back:

Not only have we been long-time members but all three of our children were, at one time, members as well. Over the years, we used our savings account in the credit union as both a long-term savings account as well as a self-regulated Christmas Club account. Several years ago, we used the funds of the credit union to finance our second mortgage. More recently, we financed our 2014 Acura MDX with PFCU because they provided the lowest interest rates. We have been pleased with the support and friendliness of the staff over the years. We plan to continue as members for the next several decades (God willing).

Anytime I have conducted business at the credit union, I have found the employees to be helpful and accommodating. They are friendly and willing to go out of their way to be of service. PFCU offers report card incentives for students. I also have an account at another institution and I don’t get nearly the personal and friendly service that I receive at PFCU. Thank you for all that you do for the parishioners in our Catholic parishes as well as all those who bank at PFCU!

Describe your experience and what is it about the Credit Union that keeps you coming back:

Why I love my credit union…
Credit unions promote the economic well-being of their members, especially those of modest means, through a system that is member-owned, general volunteer-directed and not-for-profit. The credit union mission has always been to ensure secure financial choices at lower costs for their members. That’s why credit unions offer financial products that provide better returns on savings, reduced rates on loans and lower or no fees on services. While credit unions are regulated by the federal and state governments, they are also generally governed by volunteer boards elected by their membership. Credit unions don’t answer to stockholders, but to each of their thousands of members. Credit unions invest in people by helping those who have been traditionally underserved by banks. Groups like seniors on fixed incomes, single working moms, minority communities needing greater community investment, and small business owners struggling to raise capital all rely on credit unions for important financial services at reasonable costs. While the big banks have abandoned small business, credit unions stick around for the long haul.
-Frank, Member since 1981.
